At least 25 killed, 3,100 evacuated after Guatemala volcano eruption

Guatemala's Volcano of Fire has spewed lava, ash, rocks and deadly hot gas onto hillside villages, killing at least 25 people Sunday and displacing more than 3,000. The Volcán de Fuego, or Volcano of Fire, began erupting ash and lava early in the day, according to local reports.

Hours later, fast-moving flows surprised communities that had not been ordered to evacuate. Ash spread through the sky, and blanketed the capital Guatemala City some 40 miles away. Around 3,100 residents of communities near the volcano were eventually moved, and 20 sent to the hospital, according to Guatemala's CONRED national disaster management agency. Authorities expected the death toll to rise and warned of the possibility of further mudslides.

Iris Relief is working with our partner organizations to assist in Relief aid, and gathering supplies for burn victims and families affected by this tragedy. We are currently partnering with Watts of Love to assist in providing solar powered lights for search and rescue. Severe Weather Outbreak Leaves Damage in Midwest, South; Electric Worker Dies in Mississippi

More than 405 homes and properties damaged due to severe weather nation wide.

Hurricane Maria- Puerto Rico

Since the storm made landfall on September 20, Hurricane Maria has wreaked havoc on the island. Currently, we have dispatched disaster response teams to Puerto Rico for hurricane relief. We partnered with Watts of Love and distributed over 1,000 solar powered lights in the mountainous, and rural regions of the island. We are continuing our efforts by connecting with churches, business leaders, government officials and non-profits to partner in the rebuilding process. Our desire is to continue giving hope, and train the local residents in disaster preparedness and response.

Hurricane Harvey Relief- South Texas

Devastating floods and damage from Hurricane Harvey leaves thousands of people of the population of Texas displaced by torrential rain, flooding, and damage. Iris Relief deployed to south Texas from August 30th - October 3rd. Throughout this deployment, we had 92 people that served a total of 1,909 man hours. Our teams were deployed in the cities of Corpus Christi, Port Aransas, Refugio, Rockport, Aransas Pass, Fulton, Ingleside, Tivoli and several neighboring communities.
We ministered in these communities by performing:
● House muck outs
● Debris removal
● Tree removal
● Chaplaincy - spiritual and emotional care
● Cooling stations and health screenings with FEMA POD’s in Rockport & Ingleside
● Distribution of solar lights with Watts of Love
● Distribution of donated relief items
● Rapid training and deployment

None of this could have been possible without the help of our partner ministries, organizations, businesses and the generous financial contributions that we received. Each home our teams served at received prayer, encouragement, and a message of hope. We were also able to get various supplies into communities that were in need. These supplies included food, water, tarps, diapers, pet food, bedding, cleaning supplies, and other donated items.

In the time that IR deployed, there was a lot of progress in these communities. However, the rebuilding stage is estimated to last up to 10 years. Iris Relief is continuing to partner with FEMA, Rock City Church, and the local communities to determine how we can help in the rebuilding stage.

Isaiah 61 Mandate

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is coming upon a people empowering them to bring good news to the poor, bind up the broken hearted, proclaim liberty to captives and the acceptable year of the Lord's favor. We seek to display God's heart in the outpouring of His love to those we are called to serve.

Jesus came with ceaseless love for both the one and the masses. Now we must do the same: stop for the one, but believe for the multitudes.
